Excessive Sweating Treatment
Injections with Botulinum Toxin for Hyperhidrosis
Do you suffer with excessive sweating? Stress sweat patches when you're under pressure?
There's a simple solution that can help!
Excessive sweating is a really common condition affecting up to 3% of the population. This condition is called hyperhidrosis.
People with Hyperhidrosis produce larger volumes of sweat often affecting different arts of the body including faces, hands feet with the most commonly troublesome area being the underarms. This can be quite problematic and not respond to ordinary antiperspirant products or topical medical treatments.
Treatment with prescribed Botulinum Toxin is an approved and effective method of improving this symptom.
TheToxin contains a natural protein which blocks the chemical which is responsible for making the sweat gland produce sweat and has been found to be a safe and effective treatment for excessive sweating. Studies have shown this treatment reduces sweating by up to 87%. The treatment is effective for between 4-14 months and in most people lasts from 6-9 months.
Treatment for Hyperhidrosis
After an assessment using a dye and powder to ascertain the areas with the most active sweat glands Botox® (the Botulinum Toxin) injections are given via a fine needle into the armpits. The injections are spaced at around 1-2 cm from each other and you will need 10-15 injections per armpit.
Most people find the discomfort of these injections bearable, but both ice application and topical anaesthetic creams can also be used (though this will lengthen the procedure time and you may need to attend the appointment a little earlier for the cream to be applied). The whole procedure takes between 20-30 minutes to complete.
The Treatment will start to take effect after 2-3 days and the full effect will be seen at around 7 days after the procedure.
There are few possible side effects but these include possible muscle over-weakness, bruising around the injection sites and in very rare cases some patients experience compensatory sweating in another part of the body.
